Bayview Junction 2015

Midtown Update Jan262014

Midtown_Schedule2015

Good Afternoon,

Attached is an update on Hydro One’s Midtown Project. Technicore has completed their work at Bayview Junction, and we are now moving into the next phase of the project which involves the cable installation within the tunnel and rebuilding the Junction, which will be conducted concurrently.

We will be holding a public meeting, tentatively on February 7, pending confirmation from Bennington Heights Elementary School, to establish a landscaping committee and discuss the landscaping plan for the site, and the Old Pottery Road allowance. We look forward to working with the community on this phase of the project and will provide details on this meeting when they are available.

Our engineers have revisited the junction design and after identifying a number of challenges with the existing design, we have had to expand the footprint beyond what was previously communicated. Additional details are included in the update, and preliminary landscape simulations are attached. Also attached is the project schedule.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Please be advised that Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) is preparing to undertake Phase 2 of channel restoration works along Mud Creek Reach 5, which is located south of the Heath Street East Pedestrian Bridge within Moore Park Ravine. Phase 1 of the project was completed during the spring and summer of 2013.

In general, the scope of work involves installation of channel erosion control measures and improvements to the existing flow regime. The work is expected to commence during the week of January 5, 2015 with an anticipated duration of twelve (12) weeks.

Due to limited space for construction equipment and materials, and the requirement to ensure public safety, TRCA will need to close a 250 metre section of the Beltline Trail which extends from the Heath Street East Pedestrian Bridge to the downstream end of Reach 5. Trail closures will be in effect from Monday to Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. TRCA understand the value of the trail system to the general public therefore the trail will be reopened whenever possible which at a minimum includes evenings, weekends and holidays.

Signs will be installed in the vicinity of the project site later this week to advise the public of the upcoming works and trail closures.

Please find the attached Notice of Project Commencement (NOPC) which will be distributed to properties located adjacent to the work area and along the material delivery route. We encourage you to share this NOPC with members of your organisation or anyone you feel may be interested in this project.

Should you have any questions or concerns regarding this project, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards,
Ashour

Chorley Park Trail Design Stakeholder Working Group Meeting 1 – Final Summary

To Governors Bridge Residents:

Your neighbourhood association is working hard to represent the community’s  interest regarding the trail connection in Chorley Park.  Jeff Hanemaayer and Kim Barwise have participated in a number of meetings regarding this issue with the surrounding residents associations, Friends of Chorley Park, other stakeholders, and the city.  A detailed summary of the meeting is attached and found at www.toronto.ca/chorleytrail under “Working Group” along with other information on the Working Group.  The highlights include:

  • Representatives from the residents associations of Governors Bridge, South and North Rosedale and Moore Park, plus Friends of Chorley Park, numerous city officials, cycling and walking groups, individual residents, and an independent facilitator met for 4 hours on October 22nd to discuss the proposed trail from Chorley Park to the Beltline.
  • The discussion focused on:    Design options

Safety

Impact on natural environment

City vs Neighbourhood expectations

Defining accessibility

  • All groups were engaged and respectful of each other.
  • Due to a resignation for health reasons of a Working Group member with a physical disability, the City is looking for a replacement.  If you have a physical disability or know a neighbourhood resident with one who may be interested in joining the group, please contact me.

Next Steps:

  • Next meeting with all stakeholders is November 27, 2014.
  • Discussion to focus on access points to Chorley Park Trail, route options, widths, surfaces, liability issues and degree of accessibility.
  • The last meeting is December 8, 2014

These survey results of Governors Bridge residents  were previously shared with you and all other residents associations:

Aware of the Chorley Park switchback trail project?
Yes 79 95%
No 4 5%
I prefer:
  1. No new trails to be built
31 37% of responses 42% of responses with a preference
  1. City’s plan for a trail
10 12% of responses 14% of responses with a preference
  1. New trail with modifications to City’s plan
32 39% of responses 44% of responses with a preference
  1. Staircase
0 0% of responses 0% of responses with a preference
  1. Undecided or no opinion
10 12% of responses n/a
Total responses 83 39% of total houses
Total with valid email addresses 149 70% of total houses
Total houses in neighbourhood 212

Of those with a preference, 58% (b. & c.) want some sort of trail built.  However, 56% (a. & c.) are against the City’s plan.  It is our intent/commitment to represent the collective views of all Governors Bridge residents.  As such we will be advocating for a trail to be built but with modifications to the City’s plan.  This is essentially the same positon that most of the other groups are advocating.  The extent of the modifications will be developed at the next meetings.  Please let us know if you have any questions/suggestions by contacting me or Kim Barwise (email addresses above).

Respectfully submitted by

Jeff Hanemaayer and Kim Barwise
