This is an update from Marylena Stea, Public Affairs for Toronto Hydro

” Our contractor, Technicore, has finished excavating the tunnel and lining it with concrete, which was the most invasive part of the project. The next step is to rebuild components of the existing junction on Bayview Heights Drive. We expect the junction work to take about 6 months. Residents will notice an excavator, trucks, and crane, however construction activities will not be as invasive as the tunneling portion of work.

Also at the end of April, work to install the cables within the tunnel will start. We have retained Arno Electric to undertake this activity, and they will require temporary use of a generator while they wait for Toronto Hydro to provide them with a connection.  The type of generator Arno is using emits less sounds than the one that was there previously and we do not expect the residents in the Governor’s Bridge area will be disturbed. As an additional sound mitigation measure, a construction trailer has been positioned in between the generator and the train tracks. We expect the generator will be there for approximately a month.

We hope to start rehabilitating Old Pottery road and the area around the junction this fall, but if crews still require access landscaping may not start until Spring 2016.

I hope this helps, let me know if you would like any additional information.

Dear Residents,

On March 4, Hydro One met with residents from the Bennington Heights community to discuss the design of Bayview Junction. Options were presented to the community and it has been determined that option 1 is preferred for the Junction design. As requested by the community, Hydro One did share the design with Toronto Hydro, and representatives indicated that they did not have feedback.

On April 7, Hydro One will be onsite to begin work to rebuild the junction. Residents will notice an excavator, trucks, and crane, however construction activities will not be as invasive as the tunneling portion of work. We expect that this work will take approximately 6 months to complete. We are also looking into powder coating the new structures, to help blend them with the landscaping.

Also in the end of April work to install the cables within the tunnel will commence. We have retained Arno electric to undertake this activity and we do not expect much disruption to the surface associated with this work.

Thank you for your continued patience,
